Bedford and Ridge scrimmage?

Post by fleaflicker »

It was just a sudden thought I had. If Bedford and Ridge can't schedule one another during the regular season (perhaps because the ICC and LHAC won't let them), then perhaps a scrimmage or a preseason game would be a good way to go. Leave the starters go at it for a half, then let the second and third stringers play in the second half. It will be a decent evaluation of how good the players on both teams are, especially since both teams are going to get up for a heated rivalry matchup, even if it isn't a regular season game. If score is kept for the first half while the starters are in, then perhaps the team that wins the first half (with their starters) has bragging rights for the next year. The fans win, the players win (they'll play their A game against a hated rival), and the coaches win (chance to better evaluate players). That would be an interesting way to help both teams, and to keep the rivalry going despite the lack of a regular season game. Though if it is at all possible, it'd be awesome to see the two schools scheduling one another during the season.

I don't think a scrimmage between these two schools is a good thing. Emotions running high due to rivalry could result in many more season ending injuries for both squads. I recall a scrimmage between two rivals where the fans wanted at each other, the coaches were at each others throats, and the toughest guy I know had to break it up. "Midget, Midget, Midget"

With starters in for a half, it is about as dangerous as a regular season game. The question is, are the players mature enough to not take cheap shots at one another?

It's a nice thought, but the LHAC will always scrimmage the out of schudule teams. Johnstown and Bishop Carrol were off the schedule this year for the bisons, so the bisons scrimmaged them respectively for the first two weeks of 'play'. Once again the LHAC reigns supreme against anything like this happening. If ridge would be willing to scrimmage both Bedford and either Bishop Carrol or Richland next year, then it could happen, but other than that, I wouldn't look for it to happen...
