Forbes Road's Barn - Farewell Tour
Forbes Road's Barn - Farewell Tour
I was at the Northern Bedford at Forbes Road boys basktetball game on Jan. 17. Before the varsity game, I noticed the Forbes team had "Barn Farewell Tour" t-shirts on during warm-ups. I asked about the shirt and found out a new gym going to be built. The school is undergoing an extensive renovation. This will be the last year for this pit! (pit is an affectionate phrase)
Back in the late seventies and early eighties, this gym would be packed for games. The stage at the one end would be filled with fans. This was one tough place to play because of the fans and the small size of the floor. It was never fun to take the ball out of bounds in front of the stage.
Over the years, I have noticed teams from Forbes can flat out shoot the ball.

I understand the new gym is to be modeled after Shanksville's, only slightly bigger. The gym at Forbes may be small, but it is an attractive facility. Even though the wooden ceiling has earned the gym its nickname, I would rather see those handsome old beams than the ugly ductwork and metal girders in most of the newer gyms.
I heard Everett was also doing some renovations to their gym. I hope they do something with the ceiling. I don't know exactly what is up there, but it looks like old, wet, gray insulation.

I agree with gamefan. the ceiling at forbes road is awesome and not plain and borring like so many gyms ceiling. having a bigger gym is going to be really nice for these guys and for all of us fans of course.
btw did anyone get to see the game at Tussy Mt? It was a crazy one again, but Forbes came out on top!
