Re: Mountaineer football
Hmm. And there's no excuse now like there was for Pitt and Furman. The Big East is a waste of time.

Re: Mountaineer football
Since schedules are made way in advance, there is still a need for Big East teams to fill in last minute vacancies because of the bolting of Miami, Va Tech, and BC........Also, and I've asked this question before, if the Big East is such a waste, why is Penn State opening the 2005 season with home games vs South Florida and Cincinnati? Are they scheduling so-called "patsies", or do they think these teams are legitimate big time opponents? Which is it? Either PSU thinks they are good teams, or are scheduling 'cupcakes' in order to get that offense some early season practice. Let's hear it?

Re: Mountaineer football
Find me a team in the nation that doesn't schedule a few easy games. Those 1AA games don't count for anything really for these D1A teams, that is why I can't believe they play them.
WVU hasn't just had it once either... Tenn-Chat., James Madison, and now Woffard. I guess the big problem, honestly, is they can't schedule any out of conference cupcakes because they are already in the Big East. Temple and Rutgers have been a PSU staple--hey at least they are BE teams. Now S. Florida and Cincy are in the BE too, so who is the BE supposed to schedule from the east? Honestly think about it...that is why the D1 opponents in the BE recently from OOC have been MAC teams.

Re: Mountaineer football
South Florida is not terrible. They are an okay C- program in 1-A. Cincinnati was atrocious but now have a relatively new staff who has the potential to at least turn it around. Hey, it's not like there's not room to move up in the Big East. Either one of these teams can beat Penn State. Do I think they will? Nah, I think Penn State will beat them both by like 14, maybe 10. Nothing big, though. They are not cupcake teams, but they are decently solid mid-level teams. Point is, they aren't Miami and Virginia Tech. The problem is in the filling of those spots.

Re: Mountaineer football
South Florida might not be terrible but there are by no means even close to good.
Cincy's new staff won't help yet, maybe in 3 or 4 years, maybe.

Re: Mountaineer football
I still feel there is no excuse for this type of scheduling unless someone backs out at the last minute--and come on how often does that happen

Re: Mountaineer football
I notice that PSU also plays Central Michigan at home next year. How far ahead was this scheduled? Or did some team (who can't be mentioned) bail out at the last minute. Or 8 years ago did Joepa think they would be a power by now?

Re: Mountaineer football
Are they 1AA or not? Moldo...Pitt had Furman 1AA, Ohio, and South Florida this year. The year before, they had Kent State, Ball State, and Toledo.
Thanks
Thanks
