The Big Ten - 3 in Elite Eight

Post by Former Wildcat »

Well, we heard all year about how great the ACC is, and now they only have one team left, assuming NC beats Villinova which maybe we shouldn't assume. Well, Wisconsin came back to knock off the Wolfpack, and the overrated, pathetic Dookies had their butts handed to them by Michigan State. J.J. Redick is a good player, but he is not near as great as Dick Vitale and others seem to think. I would put Stoudamire ahead of him as a shooter because at least he can create his own shot against a good defender (see the end of the OSU game).

Bottom line: The Big Ten was underrated all year. The ACC and Big East were overrated. The Big Ten will have more Elite Eight teams than both of these overrated conferences combined.

Whoa Calm down there!!! Dickie V never did anything to you!!! The ACC is the best by far and that is all there is to it You want to know why all the ACC teams and BIG EAST teams are falling it is because they all are playing each otherin earlier rounds Ex.

NC. State VS. UCONN
WEST VIRGIANA VS. WAKE

So these guys have knocked off each other!!! The only ACC team that I was happy to see lose is DUKE because I HATE them!!!

The book says play for the tie, and if you lose in OT it's bad luck.
But play for the victory in regulation and lose? You're a bad coach

so you're saying that because they had more teams in the big dance then that's the reason for the smaller number in the elite 8? doesn't make much sense to me...you'd think it'd be the opposite.

Character cannot be developed in ease and quiet. Only through experience of trial and suffering can the soul be strengthened, ambition inspired, and success achieved.

Yeah but not when they have to keep meeting each other!!! All I know is that UNC is having a little trouble getting off to a good start against Villanova but they are a second half team so they will finish off Them and do what then take out Wisconsin and then do what the Blue Devils were unable to do tonight and take out Michigan State in the Final 4 that is if they can get past Kentucky!!!

Wildcat... I wouldn't go calling Duke overrated... sure they probably weren't deserving of a #1 seed but they won enough games when it mattered to be rewarded with one. I also think your use of the word pathetic was a little much... a "pathetic" team doesn't win as many games as they did and get a #1 seed in the tourney... a "pathetic" team doesn't even make the tourney. As far as Stoudamire and Redick.... they are both great shooters that I'm sure any coach in the world would like to have on their teams... but both struggled at key times this year... Stoudamire I think was 2-14 from the field yesterday when the Wildcats were downed by the Illini...

I think that is the definition of overrated - being given a seed that was higher than they deserved. They finished THIRD in the ACC with an 11-5 record. They had three losses to teams who did not even make the tournament. Michigan State also had 5 losses, but four of them were to tournament teams. They did lose to Duke on the road, but in a close game. Overall, these teams have similar profiles, but Duke (because they are Duke) was seeded #1 and MSU #5. However, we now know who the better team is.

26 Turnovers doesn't help...

And you're right, Duke was overrated, they over-achieved all year, they didn't beat UNC, Wake, Georgia Tech 2 times. They lost to Maryland 2 times, who should have been in the NCAA's but didn't do enough in the conference tourney to get the invite. Overall, the ACC was young, and will only get better, Duke loses Ewing and Melchionni to graduation, and in my eye's, nobody else to the NBA. A top 5 team that will only get better next year, oh, and in case you don't know, UNC will be even better next year as well...

Ham your facts are a bit off... Duke loses Ewing and Reggie Love to graduation... Melchionni is only a junior so he will return. Since this thread is not about Duke I'll save my thoughts on their very good recruiting class til a later date... oh yeah... there has also been some talk of Williams making the jump to the NBA... but nothing has been said for sure yet and probably won't until much closer to the decision time.
