Congrats Jose Mesa

Post by JungleJuice2 »

Jose Mesa picked up his 8th save of the year today as the Pirates improved to 8-12. With this win the Pirates jump out of the basement and are tied with the Astros for 3rd place in the divison.

Mesa also reached a great milestone today as he picked up his 300th career save with this one. Congrats on the great and us Bucs fans are looking for many more as the Pirates make a run for the ring.

HAHA, run for the ring, I'd take Wild Card, I'd take 5 games within the wild card. They have played good here as of late, hopefully the starting rotation continue to improve, and the bullpen gets rid of Rick White.

LET'S GO BUCS!

Yeah...so more about the actual topic! Mesa would have more saves if the pirates would give him more opportunities. Correct me if i'm wrong but 51 saves out of 54 chances? that's a pretty good record. 3rd active Hispanic reliever with 300 or more saves. Some pretty good names up there at the top including Riviara(spelling?), but he gets save op after save op. So of course he'll get a lot of them.

The Pirates have not won 4 straight it's only like 2 straight since their loss on Sunday.

3 straight, either way, things are looking up...

I wonder if Ben Roethlisberger played any baseball in his day...

I don't see how the Bucs could get Mesa more save opportunities. The Bucs have won 80 games since the beginning of last season and Mesa has closed out 51. That's over half. Mariano Rivera has only 5 more saves than Mesa in the past two years and the Yankees have won 110 games in the same span. Also, since last year Mesa has appeared in 78 games with 56 save opportunities while Rivera has played in 80 with 62 save opportunities so Mesa's numbers are quite comparable to the league's best closer.

i wouldn't call Rivera the league's best closer. I think Gange took that crown.
