Re: State Rankings are out !!!
& this is how the Western sports writers see the States Top '5".
P.I.A.A. Football Rankings
10/24/2005 -
Each week here at MSA Sports we will give you a look at the top teams from around the PIAA in each classification.
Two teams still have games scheduled for Monday night...here are the top 5 rankings to date.
The MSA Sports PIAA Top Five:
Class (AAAA)
1. Pittsburgh Central Catholic (8-1): Only loss to undefeated St. Edwards of Cleveland
2. Bishop McDevitt – Harrisburg (8-0): Playing well against quality competition down a runningback.
3. Neshaminy (7-1): Crushed North Penn and may be on their way back to Hershey!
4. Penn Hills (8-1): 10-9 win in the mud against Woodland Hills…Quad East may have the top 3 teams in the west in AAAA in Central, Penn Hills and Woody High!
5. North Penn (7-1): Lost to Neshaminy…rematch should be in District 1 playoffs!
Class (AAA)
1. West Mifflin (9-0): Rule #1: A healthy West Mifflin beats up a beat up TJ!
2. Thomas Jefferson (8-1): Rule #2: A healthy TJ could lead to a Heinz Field rematch!
3. Hampton (8-1): Who is the #3 team in the WPIAL…Hampton…Franklin Regional…West Allegheny??? I go with the Talbots!
4. Wyoming Area (7-1): Tunkhannock does not put up a fight!
4. Manheim Central (7-1): Another easy Monday victory!
Class (AA)
1. South Park (9-0): The Highway to Heinz in AA will be quite a ride and the winner will be battle tested.
2. Northern Lehigh (8-0): Best case for Northern Lehigh in the PIAA’s is that they wont have to playe GCC, South Park or Tyrone until Hershey!
3. Greensburg Central Catholic (8-0): Maybe the top defense in AA.
4. Tyrone (8-0): As good as they have had in Tyrone!
5. Montoursville (8-0): Shutout AAA Mifflinsburg!
Class (A)
1. Rochester (9-0): Prohibitive WPIAL favorites!
2. Duquesne (8-0): Will be the WPIAL’s #2 seed when they start playoffs on Saturday!
3. Bishop Carroll (8-0): Class A of PIAA’s will be first test.
4. Southern Columbia (6-2): Playing better, but the competition has been less than stellar.
5. Schuylkill Haven (8-0): Survived Class AAA Jim Thorpe, 7-6.
