I had a fantastic footbll weekend this past week. I traveled to a Friday night game in WV which was a miss match but a big game none the less. It featured the Williamstown Yellow Jackets and the Richie County Rebels. Williamstown won 58-8 but bigger than the score was the win. It marked Williamstown's 45 straight regular season victory, which is the state record. It was a great atmosphere. The kid I went to see had 212 all purpose yards and 3 tds. Saturday I went to the Waynesburg/W&J game. Again, the game wasn't really a contest but there were a pair of Central Cambria Red Devils on both sidelines. W&J has Jared Bailey and Luke Espy and Waynesburg has Ryan Krull and Dan Stiles. It was great to see some of CC's past players on the field at the next level. Other local players from W&J included: Gifford Piper, Hollidaysburg and Anthony Rizzo from McCort. That night I went to the West Virginia Wesleyan/Fairmont State game. The game was played at Parkersburg Stadium, a 70 minute ride for both teams. They played the game at Parkersburg because 16 of the games players were from that area, a hot bed for recruiting. So there I was at my 3rd game in 2 days and low and behold I see CC's Wade Klezek, a true freshman in the starting lineup for WVW. It wasn't much of a game, unless your kid played for Fairmont but it was a lot of fun and heck, it was after all, football. Seeing five devils playing on Saturdays in the NCAA is a great way to spend a Saturday...
This weekend will pit three CC players against each other as Frostburg and Kyle Zearing play host to Ryan Krull, Dan Stiles and the Waynesburg Yellow Jackets. Derek Schrader from Meyersdale is also a DB for Frostburg. Other local players in this game from Waynesburg are: Chris Smithley, Laurel Valley; Mike Palko and Jeff Kamzik, Richland; Kevin Hamilton, Spaventa Bostick and Matt Spielvogle from Altoona.

Kudo's to the CC players and any other player out there that is currently playing college football.
Just playing is an accomplishment. No other sport is as demanding and time consuming at any level. Congratulations. And to the CC staff, that is very impressive that CC put out 5 college level players last year.
