Well, looks like my old school has found a new head coach... Southlake Carroll HS coach Tom Dodge. Okay, here is the thing... believe it or not, when I heard Villarreal (AD) fired Dickey, I was trying to think of who UNT could conceivably get to in games for them. I swear to you that I kinda tossed around the idea with some friends that maybe Tom Dodge was a good hire. They basically laughed in my face, and I guess the odds are against me, but time will tell. The thing is... Southlake is ranked in the nation every year. They have sent multiple players to the I-A level in the past few seasons. You know why they win so much? Because Southlake Carroll recruits kids from other schools. They are 50 times worse than anything you can imagine from McCort or whoever else. Southlake is probably the richest section of Dallas and Tom Dodge was DEFINITELY well compensated for his achievements. The problem at UNT, as I am sure some of you have heard me rant about before, is the fact that the DFW area is a major hotbed of top recruits and UNT did not have the capacity to pull them in. Tom Dodge is a proven recruiter who has immense in-roads at the best HS football program in the whole state of Texas, now. I think this is a very gutsy hire, but a smart one, and I think Villarreal will be laughed at for this, but I am telling you, this guy knows how to win football games, and I think UNT probably beat other colleges to the punch with this guy. Maybe not I-A programs, but definitely college programs in general. Time will tell, and its a big risk, but I think this is a great move.
