Congrats to all & I have no clue how these squads are tabulated/voted on... but there is one example that just jumps out @ me (and it is certainly not personal towards a kid) of how off they can be and it is a first teamer:
DB_J.D. Mason, Philipsburg-Osceola, Jr., 6-4, 190.......
now this team played vs McCort in the 2nd round & if this kid was a better football player than Scott Lewis then...I don't know what to say!! But I felt there was absolutely no compaprison in talent level between these two!
& 8 kids made all state LBer in AA. Again not a dig @ a kid but ask POs coach who was a better lber S Lewis or Matt H & I guarantee you what answer you'll get! I do believe MH is worthy of all the acccolades he is receiving but have a hard time believing he played better lber than SL!
I have to say thank you to me ..." for not being stupid enough to go to Penn State."

Mason was a DB according to the all-state team. Lewis was a LB. How can you compare them if they play different positions? Also, how many times did vman see MH play? PC didn't even play BM this year. Again, how can you compare sight unseen?

Anybody with any knowledge of the ap rankings realizes that they come from the guys in harrisburg, pittsburgh, and philly, That being said, a majority of the players are going to be from that region simply becuase that is who they witness throughout the season. Now McCort should be represented because they made the state playoffs but for the most part small town teams from small town schools will not be equally represented becuase the pollsters don't get a chance to see them.

apples to apples or however you want to compare, I too think Lewis was hand down the best overall player in the area. How this ranks him on statewide balloting I dont know. Its hard to see some of the names that have made it from this area over the past few years, yet not see Lewis. Just my 2 cents.

Mason & Lewis were fb players...as noted apples to apples. BM played PO; Mason was non factor in game....Lewis blew up their Del. offense all night, there was no comparison in ability/effect on the game! In my book ability, performance, effect on a game....all should have bearing when comparing players/tabulating all-star teams!

Did anyone not tell you never to assume anything? BM did scrimmage PC & I did see film of PC/FH & PC/PO! Wrong again Moldo. And I did state:[quote="vman";p="131755"]

What do you think the PO coach would say? Any venture? And do you remember Franco's quote? It was like Scott L is the best lb I've seen in a long time!

Hey, does this now qualify for the new 'Argument Thread'?

i played wit matt holsberger and although i agree he might not have been the defensive force that lewis was he deserved to be all state. It should have been on offense, since he lead the state in scoring. My guess is that they didn't want to take ne of the kids they had for offense off so out of respect for wat he did gave him the spot on defense.

Well there were 7 other teams that reached the same stage as McCort in the playoffs and 4 that advanced further, so maybe all 7 of those schools had better LB's than Lewis, and maybe, just maybe, Pittsburgh or Philly had a school or two that by shear dumb luck had a really good LB as well?

So the kid didn't get selected to a biased team, boo frigin hoo. Isn't football supposed to be a team game any way? shouldn't you be more concerned with how he helped the team rather than himself?

I know we argue alot on here, but why is the PIAA and the Commonwealth of PA always WRONG where McCort is concerned??? Now they've picked the WRONG linebacker for the all-state team!!! And vman has seen MH on film TWICE, so he has the proof!! WHOOPIE-WOOO. First of all, you cannot compare a DB selected to the all-state team to a linebacker who DID NOT make the team, IRREGARDLESS of the fact that they were BOTH football players. Different positions take different considerations. So that should end the conversation about Mason. AND since Lewis played behind a defensive line that had TWO all-state linemen, don't you think that they made him look good??? MH had NO ONE of any significance playing in front of him. That gave Lewis a DISTINCT advantage in his defensive play. MH deserves his award just for what he accomplished all by his lonesome on the football field. Lewis had tons of help.
