Donovan McNabb's Comments.
So what did everyone think of the comments McNabb made? Let's try to stay away from the knee-jerk "they can't win" argument if you're a secret racist.
I think there is some merit to what he said, but there have not been any other black QB's to back him up on this. He keeps saying that the media says black QB's can't read defenses, and always find problems with their game. I think there's plenty of evidence of white QB's being chastised as much as anyone else. There's only really 2 who are above criticism, and that's only because of their enormous success.
At the end of the day, i think this boils down to the Eagles fans more than anything else.

Re: Donovan McNabb's Comments.
McNabb is looking for excuses for his poor play. Philidelphia fans are brutal. Mike Schmidt could have gone 3-4 with three homeruns and 8 rbi's and get booed for popping up his last at-bat. The day Schmidt hit his 400th homerun, the media asked him in an interview how he hopes the next 100 homeruns go? He said, "I would hope that the media would be nicer to me than they were during the first 400."
QB's get scrutinized regardless of color. Terry Bradshaw took a beating in his first few years. He was labeled a "dumb hick". Then when he started producing Super Bowls, Pittsburgh loved him and the media loved him.
QB is the probably the most scrutinized position in sports. McNabb needs to deal with. Play better and the fans and media will love you once again. Quit making excuses. Philly fans and media were rough on Ty Detmer, last time I checked he was white.

It's pretty simple, McNabb can't take the heat of losing, choking, *insert adjective to describe #5*, so he plays the race card.

Re: Donovan McNabb's Comments.
Philadelphia and New York... the two hardest towns to be in when you are a struggling sports star. Jets 0-2, Giants 0-2, Eagles 0-2 (before this weekend that is) and what did i hear pretty much every time sportscenter was talking about the NFL? how the quarterbacks at these three teams weren't getting it together. I think it's more about the city of Philadelphia than it is about him being black. Heck, look at Kordell Stewart... there were numerous times he stunk to high heaven and I remember him actually crying on the sideline. Did Pittsburgh scrutinize him because he was black? no, it's cause he wasn't playing well. Also, the quarterback of the team is always the one under the microscope, and you have that position in pretty much any sport. Baseball, the pitcher. Hockey, the goalie, Basketball... well ok, they don't have that position in basketball, but still, when becoming a quarterback you get so much pressure put onto you that when you're struggling and being criticized for every little action you take, it's easy to turn to excuses and that's what McNabb did.

After Sunday's performance, Philly is once again in love with McNabb. Nothing is guaranteed next Sunday.

You guys know that the HBO interview was taped before the season right? It had nothing to do with the first 2 games.

Re: Donovan McNabb's Comments.
irregardless... every team has ups and downs throughout the season (unless they go undefeated or close to it). last season, eagles were 10-6, doesn't matter because they didn't win a ring, and they haven't won a ring with McNabb at QB. There was a string there for a while they were perennial NFC championship contenders, but they didn't make it over that hump and i'm sure that did not sit well with eagle's fans as philadelphia is very demanding of its teams, not to the extent of NY, but close. Race doesn't have anything to do with it and i'm sick of black (is that the politically correct term now a days???) people instantly claiming it's racism. This isn't 1960, 1970... this isn't the days of old where blacks and whites had to use seperate bathrooms, fountains, and schools. Does racism still exist? oh my yes, but not just toward blacks, hispanics, and any other minorities...racism is present when looking at whites as well. It's a two way street and a lot of people seem to forget about that. stop crying racism everytime something happens. i heard a story about in pittsburgh, numerous restaurants in oakland have a deal that after 11:00 they have 1/2 off menus...apparently this group of students went to Joe Mama's, an italian themed resuarant right on forbes ave. and they got into an argument with their server, demanded to see the manager, then got into an argument with the manager, were asked to leave due to the scene that was developing. they left, didn't have to pay their bill and now they're crying racism and asking people to boycott the restaurant. it's ridiculous... no matter what your race is if you get into an argument with the server, manager, or whoever, you would have gotten the same treatment. if you play the position of QB in the NFL you're going to be put under the microscope whether you're white, black, blue, orange...whatever, it doesn't matter.

Re: Donovan McNabb's Comments.
If black QB's couldn't read defenses, they wouldn't get drafted so much.

Re: Donovan McNabb's Comments.
Yeah, McNabb's comments were definately unnecessary. If your not playing well you will get critisized for it no matter what color you are, its the media's job to be fairweather reporters and such. I mean comon Donovan, is Vick only being punished for dogfighting only because he is black? Look at the critisizm that Roethlisberger got last year after he didn't play up to par. Your a QB and you have to be able to take the compliments right along with the critizism and be a man about it, no other black QB is complaining so why is he? Things are not going you way so you play the race card; just prove yourself and you wont be critisized. Oakland didn't draft a black QB with the 1st pick for no reason at all.
