This is potentially bad news for Penn State. Assuming Joe retires sometime in the next 20 years, they will need a top notch coach if they wish to rise to the top of college football once again. Top notch coaches are not going to be coming in for 500 grand. It would seem a little strange that a new coach could be paid considerably more than a retiring legend. I also wonder if potential successors will look at his salary and realize that Penn State will likely never offer top dollar to a coach....no matter how many games he's won.

Seeing JoePa's salary, the number of head coaching vacancies available right now, and the fact that JoePa said he would like to coach another 4-5 years, if I'm Tom Bradley I'm outta there.

FACT: Joe's made more money selling his NIKE stock than he has coaching...people forget that he and Phil Knight(founder of NIKE...current net worth right around 9.8 billion) have been friends from the beginning. Joe was one of the original investors in NIKE that got the company running. Don't think for a minute he hasn't been well compensated for his support in that startup shoe company many moons ago. Phil Knight is actually a really down to earth nice guy...and he doesn't forget his roots.

You wonder where he gets the money to donate so much to the school......and why he doesn't need a huge contract to coach? There you go...
